Hi there! I’m Erika, a mom of 5 young children who is on a mission to transform my own health and also that of my family. I started researching gut health when my 8 year old daughter became very sick from auto-immune disease. After years of worrying, hospitalizations, and doctor’s visits, we discovered that she has Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis. At the time, her TSH was 171 (it’s supposed to be under 4), and her antibodies for Hashimoto’s were so high that they were off the charts. Literally off the charts!
At the same time, I was going through my own health struggles. After suffering from many miscarriages and the stillbirth of twin daughters, I found myself overweight and severely depressed. I had zero energy to take care of myself, or to take care of my children. My anxiety was out of control. I started having constant panic attacks, and my overall anxiety was through the roof. My anxiety was so bad that I couldn’t drive anywhere, and all I wanted to do was hide inside my house. I often had nerve problems, tingling in my legs and arms, as well as vision difficulties and migraine headaches. My primary care physician suspected that I had MS (multiple sclerosis), and referred me to a neurologist.
Not only that, our oldest daughter was diagnosed with High Functioning Autism (HFA and Asperger’s Syndrome) right around this time. Phew! I started to research how to manage her Autism symptoms and help her thrive despite her neurological differences.
All this led me down a path to learning about healthy eating – how to transform your body and mind by listening to the body’s signals. It turns out that the “gut feelings” I’ve had over the years are spot on – the state of our health is largely determined by the health of the microbiome in our intestines and how well we tend to our bodies through healthy, natural food.
I set off on a path of discovery to learn all that I could to heal my children and myself. Along the way, I lost weight, came out of my depression and anxiety, and helped my children on their path to health. My husband lost 30 pounds once he started changing his diet to include healthier, whole, and probiotic foods, as well. Now we are firm believers in fermented foods, cutting back on sugar, and keeping our diets vibrant and healthy.
My goal with this website is to help others who are going through hard times with their health learn about the benefits of living in a more natural, holistic way. If I can help even one person with this site, I will be so pleased. I will update along the way as I uncover more research about how to heal your body and mind from the outside in.
